Effects of a Group-Based Functional HIIT Class on Physical Performance on Women Aged 55+
As we age, maintaining physical fitness becomes increasingly important yet challenging. In response, researchers from the University of Kentucky embarked on a study to explore how functional high-intensity interval training (HIIT) could benefit women aged 55 and above.
The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of functional HIIT classes at StrongerLife, in enhancing physical function among older women.
After six months of participating in functional HIIT classes, significant improvements were observed in participants' 30-second sit-to-stand and mid-thigh pull scores. These findings highlight the potential of HIIT in enhancing physical fitness in older women.
The study emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate exercise methods to improve physical fitness and overall well-being in older women. It also suggests the need for further research to establish normative values for specific physical performance measures in this population.
The findings suggest that even small doses of functional HIIT can have significant benefits for older women, highlighting the importance of personalized exercise interventions in both community and healthcare settings.
