What can you do for Heart Failure?

There’s LOTS you can do to minimize the effects of Heart Failure!

In a recent article outline the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Individuals with Heart Failure, researches laid out 9 Key Action Statements that are effective for folks with Heart Failure. Here’s the paper, but here’s the list of what you can do with the guidance of a Physical Therapist:

  1. Increase your daily physical activity levels.

  2. Manage the condition - daily weight checks, know signs & symptoms of an exacerbation, practice good nutrition, take your medications as prescribed,

  3. Perform aerobic exercise 2-3x/week.

  4. Perform high intensity interval training 2-3x/week.

  5. Perform resistance training 3x/week.

  6. Combine aerobic & resistance training exercises.

  7. Perform Inspiratory Muscle Training 5-7x/week.

  8. Combine Inspiratory Muscle Training with Aerobic exercise training.

  9. Use neuromuscular electrical stimulation.
