March Focuses

Physical Focus: Endurance

High-Intensity Interval Training is one of the most time-efficient ways to build your Endurance. Interval training uses periods of high effort work followed by low effort or rest. We will be using interval training frequently to improve your endurance this month!

Benefits

Improved endurance ensures you have gas in the tank to enjoy full days of work, fun with family & friends, or handling unexpected challenges like shoveling snow! Having better endurance will help you say ``YES!” when life comes calling! 10-15 min of interval training can give you the same endurance benefits as 45-60 min of traditional low-effort exercise. Seasoned endurance athletes & brand new exercisers can improve their endurance with interval training!

Do it with us!

Try interval training with walking or cardio equipment. Try intervals by exercising for 30 seconds and resting for 30 seconds. Your 30 seconds of exercise should be done at a high intensity - use the talk to test to determine if you’re at the appropriate intensity- try talking while you’re in your 30s of work. You should only be able to say 3 words before having to take a big breath. That is how you know you are working hard enough. Try 8-10 sets of 30 hard, 30 sec easy (or rest) and build these sets over time. Click here to watch Lee and Kim as they walk us through this challenge!

Mental Focus: Working Memory

Working memory helps you hold on to information long enough to use it. This could be remembering a grocery store list,  instructions for using a new piece of technology, or adding numbers in your head. Studies show that adding exercise to sessions of working memory practice makes training more effective! We play different scoring games during workouts at StrongerLife to sharpen your working memory.

Do it with us!

You can practice by creating a grocery store list and see how many things you can remember before you recheck your list, chunking these items into their section may be a helpful tip!
